the price of disobedience.. part II

Phedre felt like her chest was going to explode… she really just wanted the floor to swallow her up… or that a miracle would make her invisible.. or simpler ..that she had just kept her mouth shut.  But sometimes she couldn’t help it.. she liked to play with him..  she loved it when his eyes grew dark and he got that rich tenor to his voice.  But never had it happened like this before.. never had he reacted that way in front of another living soul.  She always knew she could taunt and tease or even really disrespect him with arguments and cursing but the punishment would come when they were home… alone.

This time she stood silently crying in front of her Master’s brother and even his demeanor had changed.  He was no longer surprised.. joking.. now he had taken on a much more serious look.. strange.. it looked almost like a hunger.  His eyes were intent on her when she dared look into them.  She jumped when she felt her Master’s hand on her shoulder.. fingers close to her neck.

“Um, I have certain rules I follow to show my…um.. DeLauney.. how I respect him and serve him.  I never call him disrespectful names and address him as Sir when I’m supposed to.  And I can argue with him but about things like politics and education but not about things that are about us.”

“Alright.. that’s a good place to stop for the rules.  Now tell Robb what happens when you break those rules… and remember to be honest.”

Sandy felt totally defeated.  She couldn’t believe how embarrassed she was and yet totally unable to stop herself from complying with his words.  “When I break a little rule, DeLauney usually gives me a warning and if I quit then it’s okay.  But if I keep going I know I’ll get punished so I remember the rule better next time…”  Before Phedre could continue, Robb shot out the question she feared the most, “What’s the punishment?”
